Glam doll Katrina Kaif will be the Indian face of the new Celebrity Barbie. Aishwarya Rai had reportedly been approached first, but declined due to lack of time.
“Mattel [the toymaker] proposed that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan endorse the Barbie doll, but as her prior commitments stretched her for time, she had to decline,” says a statement issued by Aishwarya’s spokesperson.
Kat is quite happy to lap it up; she endorses Barbie in the iconic doll’s 50th year. “It is so much fun to endorse a Barbie doll,” Katrina says to HT City. “Almost every girl has grown up playing with the doll and so have I, so it feels great. My
sisters would be really happy to know that I am endorsing this brand.”
The diva is delighted to have walked the runway as the showstopper at a special show dedicated to Barbie at the Lakmé Fashion Week in Mumbai. The show, Barbie — All Doll’d Up, was held yesterday afternoon, and had several Indian designers showcasing Barbie-inspired outfits.
This was a competition segment, and Katrina wore the dress created by the winning designer.

CNN-IBN: How does it feel to be the Indian face of Barbie.
Katrina Kaif: I am very honored and I feel very flattered. Lot of fun wonderful association, helps you relate to your fans and kids are always important to me. What Mattel has done is fantastic and the show they’ve put up is great.
CNN-IBN: Did you ever think a look alike doll of yours will be made
Katrina Kaif: No I didn’t but it feels wonderful, I think its one of those things to be always remembered. It is only one doll (collectors item) that is being made, its going to be a nice kind of memory, a nice thing to be remembered.
CNN-IBN: How does it feel to be in the same league as Beyonce and the rest who have had their likeness made?
Katrina Kaif: My association with Barbie was enough for me, I’m honored.
